GAP Connahs Quay bounced back from their defeat to The New Saints with a 3-1 win in the Dafabet Welsh Premier League at mid-table Aberystwyth Town.

The hosts made a bright start with Chris Jones firing in a rocket in just the third minute, but the Deesiders were awarded a penalty minutes later, only for Chris Mullock to keep out Matty Williams’ spot-kick.

Substitute Shelton Payne restored parity minutes after the restart and the Nomads then piled on the pressure in search of a winner. They took the lead when Nick Rushton directed a header beyond Mullock before Matthew Williams sealed the win with a late header.

Bala made it back-to-back league victories with a 1-0 win over Cardiff Metropolitan. The only goal of the game came when Kieran Smith’s cross caused confusion in the box and Mike Hayes was first to react to score.

Carmarthen Town left it late to claim a deserved 1-0 win at Rhyl. James Bell cleared an early header off the line as Carmarthen made a strong start. Rhyl improved as the game went on, but were caught on the break as Lewis Harling finished off the counter attack.

Bottom club Newtown produced a surprise as they won 2-0 at Airbus UK. Neil Mitchell pounced on a loose ball after a scramble in the box to give the visitors the lead before Ross Stephens wrapped up the win with a late penalty.

Llandudno came from behind to claim a 3-1 victory over Cefn Druids. The Druids looked set to cause an upset when Mike Pritchard put them ahead just shy of the hour mark, but it took just four minutes for John Owen to level the scores.

The Seasiders then sealed the win with two goals in three minutes through Mike Williams’ diving header and Leo Riley.

In the late televised match, The New Saints maintained their 15-point lead at the top with their 14th win on the spin – 2-1 against Bangor. Alex Darlington’s second- half header secured the reigning champions all three points after Gary Roberts’ penalty had levelled Greg Draper’s opener.
