HANDI GADGET HELPING DOG WALKERS KEEP CLEAN

- TOM HOUGHTON Reporter tom.houghton@walesonline.co.uk

WELSH inventors have created a device that not only scoops dog poop – but washes your hands!

Dog walkers in Barry are being offered HandiPOD gadgets free of charge after their Llandowbased manufacturers struck a deal with Vale of Glamorgan Council.

The device works by dispensing dog poo bags from one end and hand sanitiser from the other, meaning the owner’s hands stay clean and germ-free when cleaning up dog mess.

Adam Harvey, operations director at HandiPOD, made by pet company Magnet & Steel, said: “Dog fouling is an issue in Barry, as it is right across the UK.

“Dog mess is dangerous and unpleasant and it is completely unnecessary that it litters our pavements and beaches.

“We want to use our innovative local product to first tackle the problem closest to home and encourage more people to clean up after their dogs.

“We were delighted that the Vale of Glamorgan Council agreed to lead the way in the battle against dog fouling by joining forces with us to help spread the word that there is a safe and hygienic way to dispose of dog mess. We hope other councils follow suit.

“We met and spoke to lots of responsible dog owners on the weekend and were encouraged by their attitude.”

The device’s poop bags and hand gel are both refillable, and it comes with a clip so the walker can attach it to themselves.

The product is stocked in pet stores across the UK, Europe and America and the firm said it is currently one of the fastestgrowing export businesses in Wales.
