A N UNFLAPPABLE pregnant mum was at a safari park with her three children when her waters broke – but she carried on with their day out so they could enjoy the rides.

Emma Matthews was more than 100 miles from her Llandeilo home with her three children when her fourth child decided to make an early appearance.

But rather than rushing to hospital Emma, 30, continued showing her children the wildlife at West Midland Safari and Leisure Park in Worces- tershire – and even waited around for them to go on the rides so as not to disappoint them.

She then drove to a nearby town before calling an ambulance to take her to hospital.

Her husband Chris Matthews, 35, said: “The kids had an inset day at school so she wanted to do something special for them.

“She was only 35 weeks pregnant so she didn’t even consider the fact that might go into labour.”

Emma decided to take her children, Curtis, 10, Chloe, nine, and Ebony, four, to the safari park – but as she was driving around and pointing out the animals her waters broke.

“She kept driving round the park so the children could look at the giraffes and the elephants,” said Chris.

“I don’t think the kids really had a clue what was going on with their mum.

“Then they really wanted to go over to the theme park and have a go on the rides and she Emma didn’t want to let them down.”

Hours after Emma called an ambulance the couple’s baby, Scarlett, was born at Hereford County Hospital on October 21.

“It feels a bit strange knowing that one of our kids wasn’t born in Wales,” said Chris.

“Luckily I managed to drive up there and be with Emma and the kids while she gave birth.”

Scarlett was born with jaundice and was transferred to the University Hospital of Wales in Cardiff where she spent a week recovering.
