GWENT-SIDE Goytre maintained their place at the top of the Welsh League when they ran out convincing 5-2 home winners over Monmouth Town.

A Josh Brown hat-trick proved decisive and Dan McDonald weighed in with a brace. Dafydd Jones and Don Spence netted for Monmouth.

Cambrian and Clydach stayed in close attendance to the leaders with a narrow 1-0 win at Undy Athletic but Cwmbran Celtic were held to a 1-1 stalemate by Goytre United.

Afan Lido continued their steady progress in pursuit of the crown when they came from behind to win 3-1 at basement club Caldicot Town. Caldicot went ahead through Mitchell Slape but Lido came back with goals by Sacha Walters, Ben Thomas and Chris Hartland.

Barry Town returned to winning ways with a 2-0 defeat of Taffs Well thanks to goals by Jordan Cotterill and TJ Nagi, while Penybont continued their rise up the table with a 1-0 home win triumph over struggling Port Talbot.

Haverfordw­est won 2-0 at Risca, who ended the match with just eight players following the dismissals of Mark Mears, Callum Hodges and David Hurley. Both the Haverfordw­est goals were scored by Greg Walters.

Llanelli maintained their push for the second division title with a 5-0 trouncing of Ammanford, while an Elliot Morris hat-trick gave Aberdare Town a 3-2 success at Pontardawe Town.
