A N animal lover is distraught after she claims a Tesco delivery driver killed her cat right outside her garage door in Anglesey – despite pleas for him to drive away slowly.

Sharon Turner said her sevenmonth-old kitten, Willow, ran out of her house in Amlwch on to her driveway, where the Tesco delivery van was parked.

Unsure where Willow was, Sharon asked the driver to pull off the drive slowly just in case the kitten had hidden away nearby.

Sharon, 44, was about to pack away her frozen food in her garage when she opened the door and discovered Willow had been crushed outside.

Sharon said: “He killed her right outside my door.

“He must have shot off the driveway.

“I made it clear to him to please go really slowly just in case Willow was there.

“He ran right over her skull – just cannot fathom it. I have never seen a mess like it.

“My daughter screamed to him that he’d ran over our cat and he offered to give us a bag to put her in.”

Sharon said she “scooped” up Willow and later buried her in the garden.

Sharon later phoned Tesco to explain what had happened, and a manager at the company visited her with a colleague and brought a bouquet of flowers.

Cat lover Sharon said: “They came over with these flowers, which for a start had lilies in them, which are dangerous for cats too, and said they were sorry.”

They allegedly offered her £100 to cover the costs of adopting a new cat and as a goodwill gesture.

Sharon said: “Their offer for this was to replace my kitten for me, stating that adoption fees are roughly £60 and they added an extra £40.

“I didn’t want another cat and had expressed this.”

She added: “It has gone beyond this now and I was seeking compensation for the emotional damage it had on myself and my daughter.

“The image of my kitten on the driveway will stay with me for ever.

“It’s not about the money at all, but it’s just not enough.

“I want them to recognise what has happened and I don’t think they have.

“It’s not just like a refund for something, it’s not a rotten bag of potatoes, it’s a life.”

Sharon said she now wants to move house as it is too traumatic to stay there.

She said: “It may seem extreme but I love my animals as much as I love my daughter Natasha.”

Willow’s brother, Levi, is reportedly distraught after the incident and wanders around their home looking for his sister.

A spokesman for Tesco said: “We were very sorry to hear about the accident involving one of our delivery vehicles. “On hearing the news a member of our local store team visited the customer in person to apologise and offered her our sincere sympathy.”
