THESE dolls are made to look just like a real baby – and they can sell for up to £600. Denise Hall, of Monmouth, spends up to a week perfecting every small detail on each doll before going shopping to choose the right outfit.

The dolls – which can be custom made – are often bought for children as a doll to play with but can also be made for parents who have lost their baby.

They can also be bought as a keepsake for parents to remember what their grown-up child looked like as a baby.

“Most people buy them for their children as a doll,” 30-year-old Denise, the artist behind Baby Bubbles Nursery, explained. “A lot of people also collect them and some ask for one that looks similar to a photo of their child.”

The doll begins as a soft vinyl mould. Denise then applies around 15 layers of specialist paint to build on the skin tone, placing the dolls in the oven after each layer for the paint to set.

Denise said: “I have to keep building it up, otherwise it won’t look real. If the eyes are closed I paint veining on the eye lids and if they’re open I putt a glassl eye i insideid th the eye socket.

“I paint the eyebrows but the eyelashes and the hair are made of mo- h hair,i whichhi h i is microi rooted into the skull one hair at a time with a needle.
