ONE West leaders Kidwelly were sent crashing out of the WRU National Plate after a 27-16 defeat at Two East outfit Croesyceil­iog in their third round tie.

Steve Thomas, David Davies and a penalty try were the hosts’ scorers with Hadyn Symon adding 12 points from the tee.

Calvin Williams replied for Kidwelly, with his try converted by Gareth Rees who also booted three penalties but it couldn’t save them from a surprise exit.

Joining Croesyceil­iog in the last 16 are 2012 winners and last season’s beaten finalists Penallta, who had Lewis Barnett at the double in their 36-9 home defeat of Treorchy.

Ryan Davies, Aaron Bidgood, Elliott Keep and Matthew Brewer – who also booted three conversion­s – were the Pitmen’s other scorers.

Rhydyfelin, runners up in 2013, kept their hopes alive of a return to the final as they defeated 2011 winners Ammanford 30-3.

Jordan Rees was at the double for Rhydyfelin with Luke Studley, Sam Studley and Dai Gratton – a Plate winner with Ystrad Rhondda in 2015 – their other scorers. Gratton added a penalty and a conversion.

2013 winners Heol y Cyw are out after they went down 22-16 at home against Trebanos.

Rhys Thomas, Luke Griffiths and Ben Williams scored for Trebanos with Griffiths adding their extras.

Elsewhere 2012 losing finalists Nant Conwy are through after a try from Gwion Ellis-Jones helped them to a 10-0 home win over Maesteg Quins. Delwyn Jones converted as well as booting a penalty.

In the National Bowl fourth round ties, reigning champions Burry Port moved into the last 16 after a 34-0 win at Tylorstown.

Iwan Roberts scored twice, with Luke Ruddle, Richard Parker and Owen Thomas also going over with Ben Williams booting three conversion­s and a penalty.

The side they beat in last season’s final, Taffs Well, are also through after a 24-9 win at Newport High School Old Boys.

Max Hopkins, Ronan Barrett and Gavin Close were the Wellmen scorers with Shaun Baggs kicking their other points.

Cambrian Welfare, runners-up in 2015, beat Birchgrove 21-3 thanks to tries from Nathan John and Gavin Wood while Julian Huntley kicked three penalties and a conversion.

2013 winners Wattstown are also through after they won 23-16 at Bangor University. Callum Hutton and a penalty try were their scorers with the other 13 points coming from the boot of Matthew Lewis.

In the National Championsh­ip, Pontypool made it 13 wins out of 13 as they beat Beddau 21-0.

Robert Nash, Dan Robinson and a penalty try were the Pooler scorers with Matthew Jones converting all three tries.

Pooler 12 points remain clear of Narberth and Tata Steel who enjoyed victories over Bedlinog and Newbridge respective­ly.

Jack Parkinson and a penalty try were the Narberth scorers, with Ianto Griffiths adding a conversion as they won 12-9.

Steff Stone, David Griggs, Ryan Hall, Matthew Llewellyn and a penalty try were Tata scorers in their fivestar 33-15 home win over Newbridge. Liam Popham added four conversion­s.

There was also some League action lower down.

Morgan Lloyd and Ben Poole both bagged braces for Maesteg Celtic as they hit Cwmavon for six in a 38-10 home win in Two West Central.

In Two West, ninth-placed Fishguard sent Hendy crashing to only their second reverse of the campaign.

Simon James and a penalty try along with a Kyle Keen conversion were on the scoresheet for Fishguard in a 12-11 win. National
