AMY’S IN RACE FOR TOP SPOT

THERE are just days to go until we find out who’s achieved one of the pop world’s biggest accolades of the year – topping the Christmas chart.

And Wales could lay its claim to this year’s number one as one of our most prolific songwriter­s is behind one of the tracks.

Here are the big contenders for the top spot which will be revealed on Friday: MATT TERRY – WHEN CHRISTMAS COMES AROUND They are behind one of the biggest global smash hits ever written – Thinking Out Loud – and now Ed Sheeran and Wales-based collaborat­or Amy Wadge are hoping for more chart-topping success after penning this year’s X Factor winner’s hit.

Matt Terry was crowned 2016 winner of Simon Cowell’s TV talent series less than a week ago.

Ladbrokes: 8/1 LIV ‘N’ G – OUR SUPERHERO (A CHRISTMAS WISH) A track released to raise funds for the much-needed cancer treatment of five-year-old Sunderland football fan Bradley Lowery, who has been battling Neuroblast­oma since the age of two.

Ladbrokes: 5/1 FRIENDS OF JO COX – YOU CAN’T ALWAYS GET WHAT YOU WANT This Rolling Stones cover is a charity single in memory of murdered MP Jo Cox and it was Cardiff West MP Kevin Brennan who came up with the idea for it.

Featuring singers David Gray, KT Tunstall and Kaiser Chiefs’ Ricky Wilson as well as the voices of many of Jo’s parliament­ary friends and colleagues – including Mr Brennan on guitar – the proceeds are going to the Jo Cox Foundation.

Ladbrooks: 11/4 RAG ‘N’ BONE MAN – HUMAN The popular debut single by British singersong­writer Rag ‘n’ Bone Man (Rory Graham). It has already peaked at number one in the singles charts in a host of countries – from Austria to Switzerlan­d.

Ladbrokes: 10/1 LOUIS TOMLINSON & STEVESTEV AOKI – JUST HOLD ON! Just days after the de death of his mother Johannah fromfro leukaemia at the age of 43, One Direction star Louis Tomlinson premiered his debut solo offering on The X Factor – and dedicated the performa performanc­e to his mum. He’s teamed up with California­n DJ Steve A Aoki, who’s famed for throwingth­row cake around when he pe performs. Ladbrokes: 20 20/1 LONDONLO HOSPICESH CHOIRC – THE L LIVING YEARS Made up of patients, staff and v volunteers fr from 18 hospi pices, the co cover of Mike & Th The Mech- anics’ track is in support of the hospice network – and they even have one of the band’s former co-frontmen Paul Carrack on board.

Ladbrokes: 16/1 INSPIRAL CARPETS – SATURN 5 Fans of Manchester band Inspiral Carpets have launched a campaign to get the band to the top this Christmas in honour of the band’s late drummer Craig Gill, who died on November 22 at the age of 44.

The group enjoyed success in the ’90s and it’s their 1994 song Saturn 5 that’s the focus of the #XmasNo1 Facebook campaign, which has been set up by Gill’s childhood friend, Rob McCoy.

Ladbrokes: 16/1 CLEAN BANDIT – ROCKABYE It’s already a chart-topper but this track is still favourite to remain number one for Christmas.

By East Anglian electronic group Clean Bandit, it features Jamaican dancehall singer Sean Paul and English singer AnneMarie.
