IT’S TIME FOR US TO UNLEASH SAM
SAM Davies has to start at flyhalf for Wales against Ireland on Friday night, according to the greatest Welsh No.10 of all time.
Legend Barry John believes Rob Howley must make the difficult selection call to drop Dan Biggar this week if Wales are to salvage their Six Nations campaign following defeats to England and Scotland.
So far this championship, Davies has had to be content with a bit-part replacement’s role, but the time has come, says John, for that to change.
In a hard-hitting column inside these pages today, John writes: “This is not a case of desperate times meaning desperate measures. Anything but.
“The fact is davies is a class act and deserves his chance to start what is a huge game for Wales.
“In the cameo opportunities he has been afforded by Howley, and they have indeed been limited, Davies has displayed he posseses the composure and temperament to make a success of the job at Test level.
“What I like about Davies is that he is beautifully balanced, creative and thrives on taking his own team mates with him into danger zones.
“Given the requirement for freshness and a significant shift in attitude and momentum, I have no reservations in suggesting that Dan Biggar and Sam Davies must reverse their roles.”
