CAERPHILLY took another step towards the title in Three East A with a comprehens­ive 48-0 win at Blackwood Stars.

Gareth Dare, Ben Sparey and Gary Davies were all at the double for the Cheesemen with Tom Candy and Josh Williams also on the scoresheet, while Matt Hurley converted four of the eight tries.

The win takes Caerphilly to within four points of leaders Hartridge with two games in hand and are well on course for promotion – as the top two are set to go up to Two East for next season.

Meanwhile basement boys Llanhillet­h finally picked up their first win of the campaign – at the 17th time of asking – after defeating RTB Ebbw Vale 28-24.

James Foreshaw, Owen Thomas and Kyle Griffiths scored for Llanhillet­h with Blaine Groves adding the extras from the tee, including a late penalty to seal a dramatic win.

Visitors RTB left with two bonus points after out-scoring Llanhillet­h four tries to three.

In One North, Nant Conwy hit Ruthin for six in a 38-12 home win that saw them extend their lead at the top to eight points.

Chasing side Pwllheli do have two games in hand on Nant, though.

Elsewhere in the division, Bro Ffestiniog were comfortabl­e 43-8 home victors over winless bottom side Abergele.
