SKYBET CHAMPIONSHIP

- BY DOMINIC BOOTH

ALLAN MCGREGOR

Excellent early save to deny David McGoldrick after Tom Lawrence’s burst of pace. Helpless to prevent Chambers’ goal when defence let him down with some slack marking.

JAZZ RICHARDS

Tracked back diligently as Lawrence drifted into space and offers a more potent forward threat than other right-back options Matt Connolly and Lee Peltier. His crossing is a real asset.

SOL BAMBA

Again, he wasted a golden chance from a corner. But the Ivorian tidied up when called upon, even strutting through a couple of Ipswich challenges during a mazy first half run.

SEAN MORRISON (CAPT)

Defensively not his best display, particularly struggling to cope with Ipswich’s fluid front two, but won a vital header that laid on Zohore for the first half equaliser.

JOE BENNETT

To have Bennett back in the side is a real boost for this Cardiff team in an attacking sense. He allows Richards to play on his natural right side and the former Aston Villa man always gets forward. Took his goal well but found out of position a few times.

CRAIG NOONE

The teamsheet said he was playing on the right wing but Noone was everywhere. He’s that rarest of breeds - a player who can always go past his man.

PETER WHITTINGHAM

Flitted in and out of the action, but the return of Whittingham’s set piece quality gave an added tension whenever Ipswich gave away cheap fouls - which they frequently did.

ARON GUNNARSSON

Did the graft and leg-work that has become his trademark. Should have done better with a 20-yard effort when the goal was gaping on the brink of the break.

KADEEM HARRIS

Quieter than Noone and Hoilett but always an outlet on the left flank with his pace. His improvement this term has been one of success stories of Cardiff’s season.

JUNIOR HOILETT

Caused all sorts of problems running in behind Zohore, winning fouls from a frustrated Ipswich defence. Struck a post with a left-foot shot when allowing the advancing Harris to shoot would have been wiser. Should have made it four late on. Subs: Halford (for Noone, 79)
