BGT LADDER ACT IS FLAMING FLOP

- KATHRYN WILLIAMS Reporter kathryn.williams@walesonline.co.uk

IT was less of a burning ladder, more of a damp squib for Welsh “daredevil” artist Kieran Beattie on last night’s Britain’s Got Talent. The Valleys marketing manager, who is 22, got four emphatic “Nos” from the panel on the ITV talent show and left them and viewers bemused at his anticlimactic balancing act.

Kieran set fire to a ladder and then attempted to balance it on his chin in front of a perplexed audience.

Head judge Simon Cowell was unimpressed. He said: “Was that it? What was supposed to happen?”

David Walliams added: “That was the best ladder burning act we’ve seen today.”

Meanwhile, Amanda Holden had the biggest burn for the hopeful, saying: “The fire extinguisher was the best bit.”

Also on the show was a spoon balancer named Simon Cowell, who also left the judges nonplussed.

But the episode wasn’t a complete disaster, with dance group Just Us, from the Wirral, tugging at the heartstrings.

The five girls consisted of best friends Alice, 17, Poppy, 14, Julia, 15, Annie, 17, and Rebecca, 16, who met at their local dance school.

Julia suffers from scoliosis and her story completely won over Alesha Dixon, who pressed the golden buzzer for the group.

Julia told the panel: “I’m going to have surgery soon and I won’t be able to dance, so this is my last chance, I’ve always wanted to do this.”

A shocked Cowell told the teen, who was born with a curvature of the spine: “You’ve got an amazing attitude.”

David Walliams added: “Absolutely stunning performance, it so far exceeded all our expectations and was a beautiful story about friendship. I have so much admiration for you girls and seeing how you’ve come together with this friendship you’ve got.

“It’s why we all live, for the things that we love to do. “It really touched me.” Also getting a full house of “Yeses” was Surrey teen Reuben Gray, who sang an original song called Lifeline, and father and son singing and tap-dancing duo John and Brandon Pohlhammer from St Leonards-onSea, East Sussex.

Britain’s Got Talent continues next weekend on ITV.
