T HIS is the real-life Car Share couple.

Matt Lynam knew Cara because she went to his parents’ pub. One day he decided to offer her a lift to work.

After that Cara and Matt, from Abergele, shared lifts to and from work for around 18 months – and fell in love.

The couple’s story will be familiar to fans of Peter Kay’s massively popular TV comedy Car Share.

Cara, 34, said: “Matt’s parents had the local pub in the town, so I knew who he was.

“I used to see him driving past, too, when I was heading to work.

“And then one day in the pub he came over and just said ‘Would you like to have a lift to work?’

“I was really nervous the first time he picked me up – I thought he was really handsome, too.

“And I was just thinking, ‘What will we talk about?’

“But we just hit it off straight away.”

Their story is reminiscent of the hugely popular Car Share, and the couple still love watching the BBC show.

Cara said: “We absolutely love it. It just reminds us of how we met every time.

“It would be absolutely amazing if they did a spin-off where they got married and had kids.

“But even if they got together would be amazing.”

Cara and Matt have now been together for nine years and have been married for six. it C Cara saidid thath t th theiri sharedh d l love of music and rugby helped th them click – but Cara is Welsh and Matt is from the other side of the border. Cara said: “He is English and I’m Welsh – but it was a friendly rivalry, of course. “The conversation flowed really e easily, we got on straight away. “We were friends for about four y years, so we didn’t want to ruin anything, of course, but thankfully we didn’t.” She added: “The journey was about three and a half miles, about 10 to 15 minutes. “I was always a little bit disappointed when the journey ended. I always wanted to talk a little bit more.” After around 18 months of sharing a car most days, Cara went off travelling across Eastern Europe.

When she returned she knew that 38-year-old Matt was “the one”.

Cara said: “I definitely missed him when I was away, but we did keep in touch.

“Absence did make the heart grow fonder.”

On their second date to Aber Falls, Cara and Matt were locked in a nearby car park, so had to spend around two hours in the car.

Thankfully Matt decided to choose somewhere more romantic to propose, eventually popping the question in France while they were on holiday with Cara’s family.

The couple now have two boys, three-and-a-half-year-old Rhion and three-month-old Ioan.
