CRAIG GILLATT The aspiring mechanic drove through a red light and topped 50mph in a quiet residentia­l street as he tried to get away from police.

Cardiff Crown Court heard 24-year-old Gillatt sped through the streets of Cardiff before hopping into the rear passenger seat and telling officers someone else had been behind the wheel. ANTHONY SMITH The 30-year-old was jailed after police found high purity crack cocaine in his pyjama bottoms and £3,000 worth of cannabis in his airing cupboard.

Smith admitted possession with intent to supply heroin, crack cocaine and cannabis after officers discovered more than £20,000 worth of drugs at his girlfriend’s house in Newport. JONATHAN BROWNING The burglar was jailed for stealing his elderly and disabled neighbour’s tumble dryer to feed his heroin addiction.

Prosecutor­s at Cardiff Crown Court said Browning deliberate­ly targeted the man, who was in his 80s, as he knew he was vulnerable. JOSHUA ROBERTS The burglar was accidental­ly freed by prison bosses allowing him to strike again within weeks.

Roberts, 24, was initially jailed in August for four and a half years for four break-ins.

He received a consecutiv­e twoyear sentence for his latest crime at Mold Crown Court. DANIEL JONES The “dangerous offender” was jailed after robbing a taxi driver, newsagent, bank, fast food outlet and post office of almost £10,000 during a five-day crime spree.

The 34-year-old, whose Facebook bio boasts he is the “top bank rob- ber from Penarth” and includes a knife emoji, had committed nearly 100 offences before the spate of robberies across Cardiff. AARON EDWARDS The thief looking to make some “easy money” stole scrap metal from a building site just weeks after receiving a suspended sentenced for two burglaries.

Edwards was only 21 days into his suspended sentence when he took metal wires and cables from the constructi­on site in Newport – offending that also breached a community order. He was jailed. DARREN JONES The scrap metal dealer claimed benefits and failed to pay tax while his business was turning over hundreds of thousands of pounds a year.

Cardiff Crown Court was told more than £600,000 passed through Darren Jones’ bank account during the two years he was running Merthyr Metals Limited. DAVID MORROW The 20-year-old who launched a “merciless” unprovoked attack on a stranger in the centre of Neath then persuaded his pregnant partner and a friend to give him a false alibi was found out thanks to a bit of social media detective work.

The law caught up with him and he was jailed for 24 months. DAVID JOHN HANFORD A conman roofer who took £500 from an elderly Carmarthen­shire couple without doing any work was jailed for the second time in 18 months.

David John Hanford was found to have failed to comply with the terms of an Enforcemen­t Order brought by Pembrokesh­ire Council Trading Standards. LLOYD PATTERSON The 20-year-old was jailed for 10 months after a spate of thefts from cars at the Lidl car park in Splott, Cardiff.

Police used DNA collected from a stone used to smash a car window in a supermarke­t car park to convict the thief. JED MERRY A drug dealer has been put behind bars as part of the biggest drugs operation in Gwent Police’s history.

Jed Merry, 45, was the latest defendant to be sentenced in connection with Operation Jewels, which targeted those supplying Class A drugs. JORDAN PAULL The drunken roofer put a bouncer in hospital for nine days after he delivered a martial arts-style kick that knocked him straight to the floor.

He later told police he could not remember the incident as he did not often drink – but when he did he would drink up to 20 pints. IWAN CLWYD DAVIES The farmer who sexually assaulted a young girl tried to blame her for corrupting him and trying to break up his marriage.

The defence put forward by Iwan Clwyd Davies, 39, was described as “disgracefu­l” by the judge who jailed him, saying he had a “shocking lack of respect for women”. LEE MICHAEL JONES The thug slapped a woman he’d met online before hurling racist abuse at the police who came to arrest him.

Jones had argued with his girlfriend, gone out and got drunk and ended up at the house of a woman he’d met on Facebook.

He admitted a series of offences including common assault on the young woman, three charges of racially aggravated threatenin­g behaviour, a threat to kill, a threat to commit arson and two charges of criminal damage. ANTHONY WAYNE HUGHES The bus driver who took a young girl away on weekend trips to hotels and took indecent photos of her has been locked up.

Hughes befriended the girl of 14 while driving his bus, and began to contact her through online gaming. PETER BEVAN Bevan was jailed for threatenin­g to slash his ex-girlfriend’s face with a knife and telling other women she was sleeping with their partners as part of a terrifying stalking campaign. He threatened to post naked photos of her on the internet and bombarded her with messages. He was jailed for 14 months. DAVID JOHN OWEN The college chef who sent pictures of his manhood to what he thought was a 13-year-old girl is now behind bars after the youngster turned out to be an undercover policewoma­n. CHRISTOPHE­R ROWE The burglar who used a shovel to try to force his way into an elderly postmaster’s home has been jailed for two years and five months.

Christophe­r Rowe from Llangefni tried to smash his way into the property which is attached to Llanfairpw­ll post office. YOUSSEF SIRWAN The robber “hunted” a vulnerable victim leaving a Cardiff nightclub in the early hours of the morning before stealing his £5,000 watch.

Cardiff Crown Court heard Sirwan and accomplice Rayan Soultan lured their victim into an alleyway and wrestled the Rolex from his wrist.
