REIGNING South Wales Premier Cricket League champions Newport extended their 100% winning start to the campaign with a victory by 62 runs at Mumbles.

Newport batted first and made 242-6, Mark Wallace top scoring with 67 and Matt Norris unbeaten on 54.

Callum Taylor then took 3-15 as the home side were sent back for 180 to give the champions their second win on the bounce.

Pontarddul­ais beat visitors Cardiff by two wickets after Cardiff batted first and made a total of 263, Alun Thomas hitting 75 and Tom Barry 74. Lukas Carey did most of the damage with 5-30.

Bont then made 265-8 in response, Shaun Harris striking a fine 70, Matthew Aubery 51 and Cameron Herring 42. Christian Edwards took 2-18.

Ammanford slipped to a six-wicket defeat at home to Bridgend Town after the hosts batted first and were bowled out for 219 before Bridgend knocked off the runs to reach 220-4 in reply.

Penarth secured a winning draw at Ynysygerwn who batted first and made a total of 168-9, Daniel Davies scoring 43 and Nishaanth Dalavaye 35. Scott Matthews took 3-18 and Ali Bukkhari 3-26.

In reply, Penarth made 226-7, Tom Sidford hitting a fine 79 and Richard Skone 56.

Neath went down at home to a four-wicket defeat to neighbours Port Talbot Town. Neath took to the crease first and were sent back for 209 and the visitors made 210-6 in reply.

In Division two, Newport Fugitives beat visitors Carmarthen Wanderers by eight wickets.

The Wanderers batted first and were skittled out for just 94, Gareth Thomas scoring 34, with Nazir Ahmed (3-25) and Ross Madden (3-31) doing most of the damage.

In reply, the Fugitives eased to 95-2, with Nathan Millichip unbeaten on 42 and Richard Jones scoring 31.

St Fagans beat Swansea by nine wickets after Swansea posted a total of 183-8, Jake Peake hitting an unbeaten 78 and Chris Kellard taking 3-38.

A magnificen­t undefeated 62 from Gareth Rees, supported by Chris Lawlor (57) saw St Fagans to 184-1 and a comfortabl­e victory.

Tata Steel beat Clydach by 139 runs after batting first and posting a total of 270-3 which included a magnificen­t unbeaten 137 from Matthew Jones as he hit 20 boundaries. Clydach struggled in reply and were sent back for just 131.
