Unusual name is far from pointless

A WOMAN who caused a stir appearing on BBC quiz show Pointless said she “loves” the bizarre name given to her by her dad.

Holly Gould’s full name came to attention after she appeared on the teatime show alongside her sister, who like her is from Aberdare.

Her full and very unusual name is Holly May Jasmine Gillingham Football Club Gould – after her dad Andrew thought it would be funny to include his football club in her name.

Air hostess, Holly, 26, said: “My dad always wanted a boy, and when I was born he was obviously over the moon but a little bit gutted too probably.

“He put that name when he registered me, and then he put the form in a drawer. It was only when my mum found it did he tell her.

Although the name often causes looks of disbelief and some practical issues, Holly said she loves having it.

She said: “I have never resented having it, I love it. I think it’s hilarious to be honest.

“It’s definitely a conversation starter, and it’s always my go to interesting fact about myself if I’m on the spot.”

Holly appeared on Pointless on Wednesday alongside her sister Jordan, 28, a midwife, and the pair won the show and took home £1,250.

Holly said: “It was great, it was lovely to be pampered and it was nice to be on the show with my sister. We were both really excited, but it was all a bit surreal.

“We actually filmed the show about a year ago, but it’s only just gone out.

“Watching yourself on the TV was all a bit strange.”

Pointless hosts Alexander Armstrong and Richard Osman were quick to pick up on the unusual name.

Alexander asked: “Do you have all those initials on...?”

To which she replied: “Yeah, on certain things like my passport, they can only fit GFC, but I like to fill it out on most documents just so people ask me really.”

“It passes the time really, doesn’t it?” responded Alexander.

Her sister Jordan Angharad Gould, a midwife who was competing alongside her, said: “I dodged the bullet.”
