ABARRY Island Pleasure Park ride will be “fully reinspected” after more than 20 people had to be rescued after becoming stuck on it. South Wales Fire and Rescue Service were called to the amusement park on Friday night after receiving a report that around 25 people were stuck on the Mega Spin ride. The park said the figure was 22. Head of fire control Jennie Griffiths said it was reported the people were stuck 20ft in the air for approximately 30 minutes.

By 9.30pm, all the people had been safely rescued from the ride using the aerial ladder and line rescue equipment, she said.

On Facebook on Friday evening, Barry Island Pleasure Park staff thanked the emergency services “for doing a great job in rescuing 22 riders” and said the ride would be “fully reinspected” before it is reopened.

The statement read: “We would like to say a massive thank you to all emergency services for doing a great job in rescuing 22 riders from Mega Spin Ride this evening.

“All the necessary governing bodies have been informed.

“And the ride will be fully reinspected before re-opening.

“Thank you to everyone including all our staff for the great job that you have done.”

Pictures from the scene on Friday showed the affected area being cordoned off, while South Wales Police officers were also on the scene.

A spokeswoman for South Wales Fire and Rescue Service said they had been alerted to the incident at 7.26pm on Friday.

Crews from Barry, Malpas and Cardiff attended.

The spokeswoman said the incident was isolated and crews removed people from the ride.

There were no reports of injuries.
