NEWPORT secured a winning draw in their home match against South Wales Premier Cricket League leaders Bridgend Town yesterday.

Newport batted first and posted 182-5, Joe Voke and Callum Taylor both hitting 52 with Alex Jones taking 3-38 for Bridgend.

Bridgend were 180-7 at the close, Thomas Cogbill top scoring with 37 and Alex Jones unbeaten on 35.

Ynysygerwn also secured a winning draw against visitors Neath in a game limited to 30 overs.

Ynysygerwn batted first and made 176-7, Ryan Sylvester making 62 and Darren Thomas 38, with Ashley Colston taking 3-25.

Neath made 153-6 in reply, Neil Brand top scoring with 54 as Adam Sylvester, Craig Evan and Ryan Sylvester each took two wickets.

Pontarddul­ais also had a winning draw at home to Mumbles after batting first and posting a total of 148-6 off 30 overs.

Jack Butler top scored with 27, while Lukas Carey made 26 and Max Phillips took 2-31.

Mumbles made 121-9 in reply, Aneurin Norman hitting 31 as Dan Lewis-Williams bowled an impressive spell, taking 5-20.

Penarth had to settle for a winning draw against visitors Port Talbot Town. Penarth batted first and were bowled out for 194, Nick Morgan making a top score of 58.

Port Talbot were 170-8 at the close, Daniel Rowe their top scorer with 20.

In division two, Tata Steel defeat- ed Miskin Manor by 54 after batting first and making 186-6, Rohan Herbert making 49 and Matthew Jones 48, Huw Beaverstoc­k taking 3-25.

Miskin Manor were then sent back for just 132, opener Matthew Giles making a fine 61, with Matthew Jones returning the best figures of 3-18.

Gareth Thomas of Carmarthen Wanderers hit a magnificen­t 125, including 19 boundaries, out of a total of 291-4 against St Fagans. St Fagans were 259-7 in reply, opener Gareth Rees scoring a brilliant 100 and Chris Lawlor 50, with Thomas the star bowler for the Wanderers with 5-43 as they had to settle for a winning draw.
