RYAN GIGGS is the first star to be confirmed for next week’s Champions League legends game on the new floating pitch in Cardiff Bay.

Giggs will be among 25 of the greatest European footballers of recent times to take part in the Ultimate Champions Match on Friday.

The game will be the highlight of the Champions League festival that will take place in the Bay between Thursday and Sunday.

Hundreds of thousands of people are expected to attend the festival over the four-day period, as the city celebrates hosting one of the greatest sporting events in the world at the National Stadium of Wales on Saturday, when Real Madrid take on Juventus in the final of football’s greatest club competition.

More names for the match will be confirmed early next week.

Giggs was a Champions League winner with Manchester United in the 1999 and 2008 finals, captained the side in the 2009 defeat to Barcelona and played in a club record 157 games in the tournament.

Construction of the remarkable floating 3G pitch was completed on Friday. It will also host community activities.

The Millennium Centre will be the home of the UEFA Champions Gallery museum and the Champions Main Stage, in Roald Dahl Plass, will host global and local artists, DJs and bands.
