It is unusual...Sir Tom launches his tour on a beach

-

HE’S played some of the world’s biggest stadiums – but Sir Tom Jones kicked off his latest tour at a more unusual location – on a Cornish beach.

The chart-topping superstar was part of this summer’s brand new Bands In The Sands series of gigs at Perranporth beach.

Organised by those behind the Tunes In The Dunes Festival, it has already featured performances from The Stranglers, Seasick Steve and Feeder, who are fronted by Grant Nicholas from Chepstow.

As the sun set over the sea on Friday night, The Voice UK judge, who recently celebrated his 77th birthday, wowed his fans with a selection of his greatest hits, including Sex Bomb, Delilah, What’s New Pussycat and It’s Not Unusual. And they were clearly thrilled to hear the Pontypridd singer performing in the seaside town, taking to social media to share their delight.

Last night Sir Tom was due to be performing at Sherwood Pines Forest in Nottinghamshire as part of a series of gigs organised by the Forestry Commission and today he will be at Kingsholm Stadium in Gloucester.

Other upcoming UK performances include Cartmel Racecourse in Cumbria on June 30; Delamere Forest in Cheshire on July 1; Open Air Theatre in Scarborough on July 2; The Spitfire Ground, Canterbury, on July 8 and Cannock Chase Forest in Staffordshire on July 9.

Overseas shows will see him play Israel, Switzerland, Germany, Hungary, France and Majorca. Later this year he has a string of American gigs.

The concerts come a year after the death of the star’s beloved wife Linda from cancer. He told fans at the Hay Festival just weeks after her death that he didn’t know whether or not he would be able to carry on singing without her.
