SOUTH Wales Premier Cricket League leaders Cardiff beat visitors Penarth by 153 runs to strengthen their title claims.

Cardiff batted first and made a formidable total of 319-5 with opener Alex Milton hitting a magnificen­t unbeaten 117 while Kiran Carlson scored 88 and Conner Brown 62.

Scott Matthews took wickets for Penarth.

Despite a plucky 71 from Tom Sidford, Penarth were then bowled out for just 166, Luke Cheshire and Connor Brown each taking three wickets.

Reigning champions Newport were too strong for visitors Ynysygerwn, winning by seven wickets.

Ynysygerwn batted first and posted a total of 182-9, Richard Grant and Darren Thomas each scoring 46 with Charlie Stewart taking 3-22.

A superb unbeaten 81 from Callum Taylor the steered Newport to 184-3, Joseph Voke adding 39 with Grant picking up two wickets.

Pontarddul­ais were too strong for hosts Port Talbot Town, running out victors by 63 three runs.

Pontarddul­ais batted first and made 241-6, opener Cameron Herring scoring a fine 85 with Lukas Carey adding 45. Lewis Jones took 2-29 and Daniel Rowe 2-43.

Port Talbot were then sent back for 178, Richard Edwards top scoring with a defiant 66 with man-of-the-match Carey taking 4-31.

Bridgend Town went down at home to visitors Mumbles by 51 runs. Mumbles batted first and were dismissed for 143, Nick Davies taking 4-17 with Daniel Roberts making a top score of 25 before Bridgend were sent back for just 92 in 30 overs.

Neath won at Ammanford by seven wickets after bowling out the home side for just 94 in 36 overs before scoring 100-3 in reply.

In Division Two Swansea beat Tondu by four wickets after Tondu batted first and scored 185-8, Jamie Williamson hitting 69.

Swansea then scored 186-6 in reply, opener Abdullah Rahimi scoring 52 and Adnan Ghori 50 with Paul Grabham taking 3-26.
