SHEERAN TO PLAY STADIUM FOR THREE CONSECUTIVE DATES

MUSIC superstar Ed Sheeran has done what no act has done before – signed up to play at Cardiff’s Principality Stadium for three consecutive nights.

The Thinking Out Loud and Shape of You singer – who spent much of his formative years lodging with Treforest-based singer Amy Wadge, with whom he co-wrote Thinking Out Loud – will bring his Divide European Tour to the Welsh capital on June 22, 23 and 24 next year.

The most nights performed at the venue previously by musicians has been just two, with Coldplay in resi- dence this week on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Other acts to pull a double are One Direction in 2015, Take That in 2011, and Robbie Williams way back in 2001.

It was a tense time for Sheeran fans as the initial concert, on June 22, was sold out within an hour of going on sale.

But shortly after the 10am ticket release time two more dates were an- nounced – June 23 and 24.

There were still tickets left for the latter two dates last night, with prices starting at £45.

The wait on some ticket sale sites proved too much for some people, with many complaining that sites like Ticketmaster kept crashing while they were trying to make their purchase, but with the release of more dates and tickets the pressure was eased.

The singer has kept his promise to Welsh fans to come to Cardiff after initially not announcing any Welsh dates for his 2017 shows.

Back in January Ed told radio sta- tion Nation: “I really, really like Wales.

“I am literally just touring all year. I start in a couple of months and I finish at the end of 2018. If you’re a fan and you’d like to come to a gig I am going to be playing everywhere. I am definitely playing in Cardiff but not this year. I think it’s next year.

“I haven’t played Cardiff because there’s a small arena and then the Principality Stadium. There’s not a venue between them. It’s quite difficult to play in Wales.”

The Grammy-award winner is riding high at the moment with the much-anticipated gig sales coming weeks after he closed Glastonbury.
