A ton of fun for Weathersby

-

MICHAEL WEATHERSBY was an unbeaten centurion as South Wales Cricket Association Division One high-flyers Aberdare maintained their promotion push with a 97-run home victory over Briton Ferry Steel.

Weathersby certainly filled his boots as he struck 110 not out and was assisted by Gareth Wesley who hit 65 as the hosts racked up 234-1 at the Ynys after winning the toss and electing to bat first.

That total proved to be more than enough with Ferry all out for 137 in reply, while the victory was another boost for Aberdare as they bid to bounce back up to the South Wales Premier League at the first time of asking.

Llandysul, meanwhile, after ending their wait for a league victory at Briton Ferry last week, were unable to back that up with another win as they went down by 60 runs at home against Dafen Welfare – who themselves are now four unbeaten.

David Dunfee set Dafen on their way after they had been put in, as he smacked seven fours and four sixes in a 60-ball 73 as they were bowled out for 167 in 46.2 overs.

Opener Matthew Evans also made a valuable 42.

However, any hopes the hosts had of a second straight victory were dashed as, despite the best efforts of opener Ieuan Paske (42), they were all out for 107 in reply.

Jonathan Randall did most of the damage as he bagged a remarkable 5-9 off 7.4 overs, figures which also included four maidens, to finish off Llandysul.
