SOUTH Wales Premier Cricket League leaders Cardiff tightened their grip at the top of the Division One table with a comfortabl­e victory over Pontarddul­ais by 132 runs.

Cardiff batted first and made 286-3 from their 50 overs, with opener Alex Milton scoring a magnificen­t 115 and Connor Brown an unbeaten 104.

The visitors were then bowled out for 154, Jack Butler scoring 55 with James Lewis taking 4-32.

Reigning champions Newport remain in contention after they won by seven wickets at Mumbles after the home side batted first and were bowled out for 159, Zalmai Ahmadzai taking 3-25.

Imran Hassan then made 53 to lead Newport to victory as they scored 160-3 in reply.

Visitors Ynysygerwn thumped Penarth by 158 runs after Ynysygerwn batted first and posted 246-9 with Scott Thornton hitting a fine unbeaten 61 and Scott Matthews taking 4-25.

Penarth were then skittled out for just 88, Richard Grant doing most of the damage with 4-19.

Ammanford secure a winning draw at Bridgend Town after batting first and making a total of 212-4, Jack Murphy scoring a brilliant 101 and Matthew Fisher 41.

Bridgend were 185-8 at the close, Alex Jones scoring 58 and Tom Baker 42, with Sean Coaker taking 4-26.

Neath had a winning draw at close rivals Port Talbot Town after Neil Brand scored a magnificen­t 145 out of a Neath total of 296-6 before Port Talbot were 221-8 at the close.

In Division Two, Carmarthen Wanderers beat visitors Newport Fugitives by 69 runs after Wanderers batted first and made 220-7.

Owain Binding hit a fine unbeaten 68 and Gareth Thomas 54.

Fugitives were then sent back for just 151 in reply, Ian Hughes taking 4-45.
