Narsingh on a mission to be in shape for kick-off

SWANSEA City winger Luciano Narsingh went for Caribbean cardio this summer after revealing the extreme lengths to ensure he can make his mark in his first full season in the Premier League.

The flier joined for the Swans from Dutch side PSV Eindhoven in January, and weighed in with three assists in 13 games as Paul Clement’s side survived relegation from the Premier League.

But the Netherlands international, who has featured 16 times for his country, admits he’s had to keep himself in top condition since the season ended in May.

Narsingh, 26, even went to the measure of hiring a personal trainer while on holiday to Curacao to ensure he’s in the best possible shape ahead of the season opener at Southampton in a month’s time.

“I went to Curacao and Marrakesh over the summer, but I had a personal trainer to hit the gym with, and I had a programme from the club to stick to,” said Narsingh.

“This is the best league in the world, so you need the best preparation. You can’t ease up because you will fall behind.”

After a promising start to life in South Wales, Narsingh believes there’s still plenty more to come from him, but accepts that he’s had to bulk up and alter his training regime in order to meet the physical demands of the Premier League.

“I had half a season to learn and adapt to the Premier League.

“Straightaway I could see the game is much faster and the game is a lot more physical.

“I had to work hard on my strength because I needed to improve that aspect of my game, and I’m happy with where I am now.

“Now, with half a season behind me, I want to show more and more of myself.”
