LEADERS Newbridge had a bad day at the office as they were skittled out for just 49 on their way to a six-wicket defeat at Brecon in Division One of the Thomas Carroll South East Wales Cricket League.

James Mitchell (5-16) bagged himself a five-for as he ripped through the visitors’ batting with Sam Williams also collecting 3-15.

That total was never going to be enough as the hosts knocked off the runs and sent the leaders tumbling to only their third league reverse of the campaign.

Meanwhile a half century from David Bennett (69) helped earn Chepstow victory at Sudbrook by Duckworth-Lewis rules in a rainaffect­ed clash.

Bennett’s runs helped Chepstow to 197 all out before Sudbrook, despite 50 from Ross Lewis, were restricted to 92-8 as they attempted to chase down a revised victory target of 174 off 32 overs.

Rizan Mansoor bagged 3-29 while Jason Dobbie and Luke Watson took two wickets apiece.

Elsewhere in Division One, Pentyrch won by seven wickets at Blackwood Town.

Gareth Berry struck 72 as Black- MENAI Bridge lost further ground at the top of the North Wales League Premier Division after a narrow one-run defeat against Gresford.

Gresford won the toss and decided to bat where they posted 158 before they were skittled out with Ashley Wood claiming stunning figures of 5-35.

Darren Williams led the way for Gresford with 51 while Jack Bunkell chipped in with 27.

In reply Arwel Thomas (38), Matt Bixby (28) and Robbie Jones (27) all helped last year’s runners-up Menai Bridge score 157-9 but they were unable to find the extra runs to seal victory.

Meanwhile, Llandudno’s defence of the title took another blow with a heavy 142-run defeat at Connah’s Quay.

Batting first, Connah’s Quay built ABERAERON went to the top of the West Wales Conference after a stunning three-wicket victory over previous leaders UWA Commoners.

The Commoners won the toss,batted first and scored 196-5 with Neil Stent top scoring with 45.

Hywel Rees took 2-40 and Paul Hughes 1-34.

Aberaeron knocked off the runs for the loss of seven wickets,Chris Strage being the star with 66. Alex Pitchford got 52 and Neil Snowdon 23. Bill Somerfield took 2-37. Elsewhere Aberystwyt­h’s first team overwhelme­d their seconds wood, after being put in, made 199-9 with Dominic Grossett collecting 3-16.

But it would be the visitors would who would ultimately run out victors thanks to a swashbuckl­ing 88 from Jamie Mills, including 11 fours and four sixes, and Todd Wilcox (79). In Division Two jointleade­rs Rogerstone Welfare and Abergavenn­y both won.

Rogerstone were six-wicket winners at home against Barry Athletic, bowling their visitors out for 112 with Gareth Berry taking 4-23.

Alec Holdaway then struck 45 to lead the hosts to victory.

Abergavenn­y cruised to a ninewicket home victory over Whitchurch-Heath.

The victory was set up by a magnificen­t bowling performanc­e from Sam Clarke who bagged 6-32 as Whitchurch were all out for 141 after being put in.

Openers Andrew Jones (66) and Morgan Bevans (65) then put on 128 for the opening wicket in reply as Abergavenn­y ran out comfortabl­e victors. up a strong lead through Darren Jones (53) and Martin Burger (51) as they finished on a huge 252-9.

Rhodri Morgan hit 34 in reply for Llandudno while Ethan Hill struck 21 but they were eventually skittled out on 110.

Those results meant it was a good weekend for leaders Bangor who extended their lead at the top with a 10-run win over Denbigh.

David Winter hit 81 before Bangor were dismissed on 205, with Sam Lewis taking 3-23.

Denbigh hit back with 195 thanks to 71 from Harrison Jones but four-wicket hauls from Francois Mostert and Waleed Idrees saw them skittled out to earn the win for Bangor. by nine wickets.

Put into bat the seconds were skittled out for 105 in 34.3 overs with Joel Dixon top scoring with 28 runs while Rowan Dimbadin took four for 15 and Andy Price 2-10.

The firsts had no difficulty in reaching their target for the loss of only one wicket.

They got to 106 in just 21.1 overs with Anthony Burrell hitting 47 and Price was unbeaten on 37.

Just one game is planned for today- Talybont are scheduled to entertain Tywyn and District.
