Let Clement spend Gylfi money, says Mourinho

- Swans report: Sports pullout

JOSE Mourinho has urged the Swansea City board to let Paul Clement spend the Gylfi Sigurdsson cash after seeing his Manchester United side hand out a thrashing at the Liberty.

United boss Mourinho says there’s “no drama” around Swansea’s start to the season following the 4-0 result, but he says he hopes Clement is able to reinforce his side with the recent £45m windfall from Sigurdsson’s move to Everton.

The win was the Red Devils’ biggest over Swansea in the Premier League and Mourinho was caught on camera seemingly showing sympathy to his opposite number at the final whistle.

But he insisted the loss of Sigurdsson – as well as injury to Fernando Llorente – made it difficult for Clement in what he called a tight game until the final stages.

And with Clement keen to bring in potentially three new faces before the window closes, Mourinho said: “He has lost Gylfi, but also Fernando because Fernando is injured and is also an important player for them, he gives them other kinds of solutions.

“I can imagine Fernando playing together with the kid Tammy or Jordan so Paul is going to have more solutions.

“But I hope that the £45m is spend. Paul did good work last season. He has one point after two matches, one of them against one of the top six or seven teams so it is not a drama, so keep going.”

Swansea are keen to land West Brom’s Nacer Chadli, have the option of bringing back striker Wilfried Bony and have made bids for Hull’s Sam Clucas and Stoke’s Wales star Joe Allen.

Swansea fans will be keen to see business done sooner rather than later following the defeat, a result that leaves Swansea still looking for their first win and with one recognised shot on target from their opening two games. Mourinho added: “The last ten minutes looked impressive because the opponent was losing and trying to have a go. The reality of the game was 75 minutes 1-0.”
