NEWPORT boss Mike Flynn was furious with his side’s display as they suffered their second defeat of the season.

Two goals from Kevin Ellison either side of a Scot Bennett leveller were enough to give the home side their first win since the opening day of the season.

Flynn fumed: “We were terrible, absolutely terrible. We were beaten up all over the park and put crosses into the box with more hope than anything else.

“We looked like we hadn’t worked on things in training like we do and we need to put it right.

“If the lads are going to pull out of challenges like they did today and not put their foot in then they won’t be playing.

“In all honesty I could have substituted eight of them at half time they were that bad.

“I’m the first one to give them the credit but today was nowhere near good enough.

“I’m glad to say I haven’t had too many days like this since I have been manager but I don’t want many more I must admit and I’m hoping it was a one off. If we put in too many of those performances we will be back at the wrong end of the table again.’’

Newport went behind in the 34th minute with Ellison scoring his third goal in four games.

Elliot Osborne earned the assist with a right foot shot from the edge of the box that was superbly saved by Joe Day but the ball fell to Ellison who slammed home the rebound.

The lead lasted only one minute however as the Exiles pulled a goal back almost immediately.

Matty Dolan swung over a right wing corner to the far post and although the unmarked Mickey Demetriou failed to take advantage of his first opportunity he was able to drill in a low cross that was stabbed home by Scot Bennett at the near post.

The second half saw both sides create chances with Day producing a brilliant save from an Adam McGurk header but Ellison had the final word nine minutes from time when he diverted Adam Campbell’s long range shot into the top right hand corner of the Newport goal.

Newport pushed forward at the end but failed to trouble the Morecambe keeper as they tasted defeat for only the second time this season.
