Families out in force for Festival of Running

-

FAMILIES of all ages have pulled on their trainers to take part in Cardiff’s annual celebration of running.

Hundreds of people joined the Festival of Running yesterday to get in the spirit ahead of today’s Cardiff Half Marathon.

Kicking off with the family fun run, runners young and old gathered to complete the 2.4km route, looping around Cardiff City Hall, Alexandra Gardens and North Road.

While some took part wearing their best running clothes, others chose to don costumes including an inflatable suit and “Where’s Wally” outfits.

For the youngest competitors a Toddler Dash was also held for budding runners aged three and under.

Follow its success last year, other events during the celebration included a 100m Mascot Race and a One Mile Road Race, offering fast-paced action for competitors and spectators.

A fun run was also held for Cardiff University students, along with a day of music, face-painting and entertainment.

As the second biggest of its kind in the UK, thousands of people are expected to flock to Cardiff to take part in the 13.1 mile race around the city centre.

Despite a forecast of heavy rain, 25,000 people are predicted to complete the course – the biggest number of entrants in its 14-year history.

The race will start at 10am, with the wheelchair race starting at 9.50am on Castle Street.
