South Wales Police has the following advice for people putting on their own displays.

Always make sure your fireworks have been purchased from a licensed trader.

Light sparklers one at a time and wear gloves.

Never give sparklers to a child under five. Buy fireworks marked BS 7114. Keep fireworks in a closed box. Follow the instructio­ns on each firework.

Light fireworks at arm’s length using a taper. Stand well back. Never return to a lit firework . Never put fireworks in your pocket. Never throw fireworks. Keep pets indoors. It is illegal to do any of the following:

Buy fireworks, or possess them, in a public place if you are under 18.

Let off fireworks between the hours of 11pm and 7am (cut-off point is midnight on November 5).

Throw fireworks in the street, at property, or at people.
