PAUL CLEMENT’S REACTION...

-

PAUL Clement has insisted he can still turn around Swansea City’s fortunes, despite blasting an unacceptable display from his side as concern and anger grows at the Liberty.

Swansea’s players, board and manager all came under fire from fed-up supporters who witnessed a woeful performance that allowed an ordinary Brighton side to claim a 1-0 win.

It was the fifth time Swansea have lost at home this season from six league games, a return that has left them in the relegation places with little light at the end of the tunnel.

Clement pulled no punches, admitting his team were shot of confidence but demanding his side man-up and cope with the pressure of the crowd.

But he was of “no doubt” he could turn things around, and that there was enough in his squad to do that – even if he did admit he is already thinking of the January transfer window.

Following the Brighton win – sealed by Glenn Murray’s 29th minute goal a seemingly shell-shocked Clement said: “If we play at that level and standard can’t be expected to win a game. We are a team that is struggling with any kind of confidence at the moment but the performance was not of a level to even get a point.

“Possibly the atmosphere affected the team and some of the individuals, but our job is to deal with that – we have to – because we’re in a bad moment, no question about that.

“If the fans are frustrated – and it isn’t the first time they’ve shown it, though this was more ferociously – then no-one is more disappointed and frustrated by the levels of performance than I am.

“At the moment we’re in a really bad moment, no question about it. But together, with me at the front, we have to find a way to get a victory. We might have to grind a result out somewhere, we might have to win ugly just to stop this vicious cycle of poor performance, bad result, result.

“A lot of the players in this group have been in this situation before and we have belief we can get out of it, but we don’t want this continuing on and on and on. We have to do something about it soon.”

Asked if he had the players to do so, Clement said he had, though added “it was clear” he had to bring in additions in January.

But he said there were opportunities in upcoming fixtures to turn things around before then, and asked if if he was still confident he was able to instigate that the Swans boss said: “I am confident. I have no doubt of that.” poor performance, bad
