LIQUID SHARD HOPES
IT LOOKS like a giant silver wave that floats in the sky – and it could be coming to Wales. The Liquid Shard art sculpture has already made headlines in the USA thanks to its fascinating displays of reflective light and shadows.
Now a crowdfunding campaign has been set up to bring it to Margam Park in Port Talbot.
People are being asked to donate towards the £15,000 cost of making the project happen. The campaign has already raised £1,145 in the first few days. The deadline is the end of the year.
“Liquid Shard will capture the imagination of people here in an unforgettable way,” said Karine Décorne, artistic director of Migrations, a company which aims to bring innovative installations from across the globe to Wales.
The company is teaming up with Margam Country Park in the hope of presenting the UK premier of the installation as part of the Year Of The Sea with Visit Wales next summer.
The Liquid Shard was created by Los Angeles-based artists Poetic Kinetics who are pioneers in the creation of large-scale installation and design.
They call it a “vast kinetic sculpture inspired by nature, made from thousands of fragments of holographic mylar and monofilament”.
It stretches 15,000sq ft across where it’s installed.
People who’ve witnessed called it “mesmerising”.
Karine added: “Migrations strives to bring international performance to Wales through innovative colloborations, commissions and partnerships. Therefore, we are thrilled to be collaborating with Margam Country Park again to bring the UK premiere of this major arts installation.
“Through our work we reach large audiences, attracting art lovers and engaging with those who think the contemporary arts is not for them.
“We passionately believe that extraordinary arts can happen outside of the big cities and often work with underserved and unusual settings.”
