ANGLO-WELSH ROUNDUP
NORTHAMPTON recovered from the Anglo-Welsh Cup loss to Exeter with a 41-7 bonus point win over a battling but outgunned Dragons side at Franklin’s Gardens.
Saints only led 12-0 at the break after wing Juan Pablo Estelles and hooker Reece Marshall crossed – with fly-half Stephen Myler converting Marshall’s touchdown.
But they eased to victory with tries from wing Ken Pisi, scrumhalf Cobus Reinach, back row Tom Wood and replacement scrumhalf Alex Mitchel, with Myler kicking two more conversions and a penalty and replacement stand-off James Grayson kicking one conversion.
Centre Joe Thomas replied for the Drahons with Arwel Robson converting.
Cardiff Blues were thrashed 57-0 at Newcastle Falcons.
The home side scored nine tries, two for Sinoti Sinoti, one apiece for Micky Young, Mark Wilson, Adam Radwan, Alex Tait, Joel Hodgson and Gary Graham plus a penalty try.
Hodgson added six conversions to complete the rout.
After the Ospreys’ defeat at Wasps on Friday night it’s now left to the Scarlets to salvage some pride from a dismal weekend for the Welsh region.
Bit it won’t be easy as Wayne Pivac’s men travel to Avia Premiership champions Exeter Chiefs this afternoon to complete the round of fixtures.
Today’s other game sees Harlequins host Worcester.
