CARDIFF Met University continued their impressive form to go to the top of the Welsh Premier League table with an excellent 2-0 victory at Prestatyn Town.

Elliot Evans was the star of the show for the students as he grabbed both goals, his first coming after 41 minutes and the second 11 minutes from time following a splendid pass from Ben Bowler.

They took over at the helm from Connahs Quay Nomads who held the top spot temporarily following a 1-1 draw at Bala on Friday night.

Mike Wilde fired the Nomads into the lead on 37 minutes but a late penalty by Chris Venables rescued a point for the Lakesiders.

Things go from bad to worse for Carmarthen Town as they slumped to their 11th defeat in 13 outings and remain rooted to the foot of the table.

They went down 2-0 to fellow strugglers Newtown at Richmond Park, Luke Boudford and Neil Mitchell netting for the visitors.

Barry Town, promoted from the Welsh League last season continued their recent improvement as they beat Llandudno 2-0 at Jenner Park.

Defender Chris Hugh and the league’s joint top scorer Kayne McClaggon were on target for Barry.

Premier League Champions The New Saints will today aim to reach the semi-finals of the IRNBRU Cup competition for the second successive season when they play host to Queen of the South at Park Hall.
