ABERYSTWYTH Town were in seventh heaven as they thrashed Prestatyn Town 7-1 in the JD Welsh Premier League, writes Jay Bayford.

An unstoppable long-range strike from Ashley Young gave Aber the lead before John McKenna headed in a second on 41 minutes.

And a quick-fire double from Malcolm Melvin and Joe Phillips handed Aber the three points before the break.

Noah Edwards struck a consolation for the Seasiders in the second half but further strikes from Ryan Wade, Declan Walker and Craig Hobson sealed the rout.

Bangor City moved one point behind leaders The New Saints after a 2-0 win at Cefn Druids.

Goals from Dean Rittenberg and Luke Wall gave the Citizens all three points as they closed the gap on TNS, who didn’t play as the ice and snow saw their top-of-the table clash with Connah’s Quay Nomads postponed until Tuesday.

Elsewhere, a late effort from Chris Venables helped Bala Town beat Cardiff Met 2-1.

Mike Hayes put Bala ahead early in the second but Eliot Evans equalised within three minutes.

However, a late curling effort from Venables saw Bala snatch the victory.

In other action, Barry Town United survived a late scare to edge past Carmarthen Town 2-1.

Macauley Southam and Kayne McLaggon were both on target for Barry before Liam Griffiths pulled one back with five minutes to go.

Meanwhile, a late Joe Kenton strike helped Newtown to a 2-1 win over Llandudno.

Shaun Cavanagh had earlier cancelled out Luke Boundford’s opener.
