Coast has a starring role in Evans’ TV tourism ad

-

THE natural beauty of Wales’ coastline will star in a new TV campaign to be shown for the first time over Christmas.

A new advert, starring Hollywood actor Luke Evans, is the first part of a marketing campaign to promote Wales as a coastal destination for tourists.

The advert will be shown for the first time tomorrow, during some of the biggest festive programmes, to promote Visit Wales’ new “Year of the Sea” campaign for 2018.

The Pontypool-born actor, famous for blockbusters such as Beauty and the Beast, Girl on the Train and The Hobbit, is shown piloting a classic seaplane, taking flight from Llyn Gwynant in Snowdonia, around the award-winning coastline, before finally landing at sunset in Cardiff Bay.

The film showcases the stunning scenery, sea-bound activities, and coastal wildlife, as well as the 870-mile Wales Coast Path.

It follows on from the 2017 Year of Legends campaign.

Luke said: “Being able to see Wales’ coastline in this way was both an honour and privilege. We passed hundreds of beaches, harbours, inlets and islands – while spotting porpoises and bottlenose dolphins playing in the distance – and saw people kayaking, paddleboarding and coasteering. There is just so much to do.

“I have such fond memories of spending holidays by the coast in Wales, and I try to get back here as often as I can. It offers complete respite from the hustle of everyday life and reminds me how lucky I was to grow up surrounded by such awe-inspiring scenery.”

Actress Hannah Daniel provides the voiceover on the Welsh version of the TV advert.

It will be shown for the first time on ITV on Christmas Day during the Victoria Christmas Special from 9.45pm.
