Pregnant woman rescued from car

-

POLICE and emergency services rescued a pregnant woman who became trapped in her car after skidding off the road on Boxing Day.

A joint ambulance and police response unit were called to the scene at Cross Hands, Carmarthenshire, after reports of heavy snow in the area on December 26.

When they arrived, they found a woman a few weeks away from her due date trapped inside the vehicle.

Ambulance and fire crews safely removed her from the car and she was given a positive medical assessment.

Special Inspector Sam Radion was on duty with the Joint Response Unit when they received the call.

He said: “While in the Meidrim area a call came in that the snow was coming down heavily in Cross Hands and a car had slid off the road and trapped the occupant inside.

“The occupant was a woman who was pregnant, and a few weeks away from due, so this was given a high priority for any nearby units.”

He said other police, ambulance and fire personnel also arrived at the scene, so he and his colleague Special Sergeant Thomas diverted traffic at the Cross Hands roundabout while a temporary road closure was put in place.

He added: “Fortunately the lady was removed safely from the vehicle and given a positive medical assessment so the disruption to Christmas traffic was kept to a minimum.”
