Henson in apology after being dropped

-

GAVIN Henson has taken the unusual step of publicly apologising and explaining why he has been completely axed from the Dragons team to face the Ospreys this afternoon.

Henson (pictured above) has been left out of the squad for the home match against his former team after a shocker of a display in the Boxing Day match against Cardiff Blues at Rodney Parade.

The 35-year-old was completely out of sorts, being bounced off a tackle and dumped on his backside by Blues youngster Owen Lane at one point.

He was also at fault for Rey LeeLo’s try, shooting out of the defensive line, while his all-round contribution was sloppy and laboured compared to some of his impressive appearances earlier in the season.

Following the announcement of the teams for the Ospreys match, one Dragons fan took to Twitter to query why Henson was nowhere to be seen, expressing his frustration that no explanation had been given.

After seeing the tweet, Henson replied: “Yeah, sorry, I wasn’t physical enough in the contact area, especially after being bounced off so I’ve lost my place. It’s an area of my game that isn’t great at the moment so working hard on putting that right.”

The rare and very honest public appraisal from a player of his own performance drew great approval from many fans, who backed Henson to return to the side soon.

Henson has been replaced in the Dragons team by Arwel Robson, with Angus O’Brien covering from the bench in Henson’s absence.
