CEFN DRUIDS bagged the point they needed to secure a place in the top six of the JD Welsh Premier League at the split after a goalless draw with Llandudno at the Rock.

Llandudno came into the match three points behind the Druids but, with a better goal difference, knew a win would see them snatch sixth spot.

Marc Evans went close for Llandudno just before the half hour mark but, after finding space at the back post, could not get enough purchase on his shot before then also forcing a good save out of Michael Jones moments later.

They went close again two minutes later when good work from Toby Jones down the left saw him cut in and square the ball to Danny Hughes who saw his shot hit the crossbar.

Lewis Buckley also struck the woodwork with a low driven shot for the Druids in the first half.

Llandudno’s cause was not helped when they lost skipper Tom Dix for a second yellow card on 49 minutes for a challenge on Alec Mudimu.

And the Druids clung on cement sixth.

Meanwhile, Barry Town United, who needed a Llandudno win – while also bettering their result by seven goals – to snatch sixth, went down 1-0 against Bala Town at Jenner Park.

Mike Hayes’ goal on 65 minutes proved decisive.

The other five places in the top half were already confirmed before yesterday.

Champions The New Saints beat Bangor City 2-1, thanks to Blaine Hudson’s winner four minutes from time, and have gone 12 points clear.

That’s as a result of Connah’s Quay Nomads losing 4-2 at Aberystwyth Town – who were inspired by Joe Phillips’ hat-trick.

Cardiff Met won 2-0 at Carmarthen Town thanks to a Clayton Green own goal and a last-minute Kyle McCarthy penalty, while Newtown beat Prestatyn Town 3-0 thanks to goals from Jamie Reed, Alex Fletcher and Joe Kenton. to
