LLANELLI Town missed the chance to move top of the Nathaniel Car Sales Welsh League Division One table after a 2-1 defeat to Afan Lido in a dramatic encounter, writes Jay Bayford.

The game sparked into life on the half-hour mark when Reds goalkeeper Scott Coughlan saw red for a foul on Sacha Walters. Defender Lee Bevan took his place between the sticks and saw Rob Thomas give Llanelli the lead.

However, Lido’s Mark Jones hit back instantly before Llanelli went down to nine men after Joe Clarke elbowed Josh Webber.

And Chris Thomas put through his own net in the dying minutes as Llanelli ended a frustrating day in defeat.

The weather claimed many casualties throughout the league as leaders Haverfordwest County saw their game at Taffs Well postponed along with five other games.

But credit to Cambrian & Clydach, who managed to get their game with Penybont going. Although they may have wished they hadn’t after falling to a 1-0 defeat with Kieran Howard’s strike proving to be the match winner.

The Division Two schedule was also decimated with only two games going ahead.

Risca United were among the goals as they hit AFC Porth for a six in a 6-1 win. Sam Palmer, Tom Berry, Matthew Thomas, Daniel Battle, Callum Porter and an own goal helped them to an emphatic victory while Shane Parry’s own goal put AFC Porth on the scoreboard.

The only other game to go ahead saw STM Sports beat Abergavenny 2-1 to move top of Division Two. Callum Bateman and Richie Brown were both on target.

In Division Three, Treharris Athletic Western beat Ely Rangers 2-1 while Newport City drew 2-2 Tredegar Town.
