UEUES FOR TOY STORE BARGAINS

- RACHEL MAINWARING Reporter rachel.mainwaring@walesonline.co.uk

IF YOU want to grab some bargains you need to head to Cardiff’s Toys R Us, which is due to close. The toy retailer, based in Cardiff Bay, has announced an additional 20% off the already half price reductions until next Sunday, February 25.

And there are some real bargains to be had, as long as you don’t mind queuing for up to half an hour to get them.

When we dropped in yesterday, shoppers were taking advantage of the brilliant bargains – from scooters to bikes, Disney to Star Wars – at the Cardiff store and though no closing date has yet been confirmed, floor space within the store has been reduced, with just two thirds of the store now in use.

A spokesperson for Toys R Us said: “The timing for today’s slash in prices comes at a time when parents are looking for things to do ahead of half term with the kids.

“There’s never been a better time to grab a bargain on toys in Cardiff and, although it’s a sad time for the giant toy retailer, we’re expecting our customers to take full advantage of the slashed prices”.

Yvonne Cottrell, a grandmother of five, has been to the shop three times this week to bag some early Christmas presents.

She said: “It’s been well worth it. I’ve saved an awful lot of money.”

In total, the chain is closing 26 branches across the country. The toy retailer currently employs more than 3,000 people in the UK, and it is understood that up to 800 roles are set to go under consultation.

Its store in the capital’s Queen Street – which is deemed as a pop-up and has been trading since September last year – will remain open.

The Swansea Toys R Us, located at the redeveloped Parc Tawe, will also be unaffected.
