Wales On Sunday

How they rated

- BY ANDREW GWILYM

KRISTOFFER NORDFELDT

Made an important early save to deny Adam Reach and had a sound and solid enough afternoon in the Swansea goal. Made sure of replay with dramatic late stop.

KYLE NAUGHTON

A late replacement for Alfie Mawson, and did well particularly when considering he would have been preparing to be sat on the bench. Was calm and composed and made a number of important interventions.

KYLE BARTLEY

Still working his way back from a serious injury and the rust is lingering. Some of his distribution was lax and was troubled by Nuhiu’s physicality, but solid enough.

MIKE VAN DER HOORN

Early on it looked like the early kick-off time had caught the Dutchman still slumbering. But normal service was soon resumed and he did his usual solid job, although looked ill at ease on left of back three.

MARTIN OLSSON

Quiet in the first half, had very few chances to get forward and was kept busy in his defensive duties, but became more of a factor after the break.

TOM CARROLL

Looks to be a man rediscovering some confidence and form. Looks far more assertive of late and threaded together some nice passages of play. Worked tirelessly without the ball too.

KI SUNG-YEUNG

Helped Swansea find a semblance of control after a poor first half-hour, his increasing influence helped the visitors settle and brought a bit more crispness to their movement of the ball.

WAYNE ROUTLEDGE

A couple of lively moments, but far too often found himself easily bundled off the ball. Peripheral in the first half, more involved in the second, but made some glaring errors on the ball.

LUCIANO NARSINGH

Similar to Routledge, far too flimsy when it came to keeping the ball or winning it in important areas. As a result was barely a factor during the opening half. No surprise to see him withdrawn for Dyer.

TAMMY ABRAHAM

His hold-up play remains a source of frustration, could not help Swansea keep the ball when they needed to alleviate the early pressure and made some poor decisions in attack. Made a much better start to the second half before coming off with a knock.

SUBSTITUTES

Nathan Dyer (for Narsingh, 64): Provided some much-needed spark to proceedings following his introduction. Jordan Ayew (for Abraham, 65): Was Swansea’s biggest attacking threat, lively and causing headaches for defenders. Sam Clucas (for Olsson, 80): Given a late run-out as Swansea pressed for a winner and made one surging run. Not used: Mulder, Fernandez, James, Maric

SHEFF WED

Dawson, Frederico Venancio, Jones, Pudil, Hunt, Boyd, Butterfield (Pelupessy, 70), Reach, Fox, Wallace (Lucas Joao, 80), Nuhiu. Subs not used: Loovens, Baker, Wildsmith, Kirby, Nielsen.
