SWANS STILL IN THE FA CUP RACE

-

CARLOS Carvalhal is hopeful Alfie Mawson will not face a spell on the sidelines after revealing the Swansea City defender’s knee had locked before the FA Cup fifth-round stalemate at Sheffield Wednesday.

Mawson had been named in the starting line-up at Hillsborough yesterday, but required treatment after encountering problems during the warm-up and his place was taken by Kyle Naughton.

There was the worrying sight of the former Barnsley man taking a seat in the stands on crutches and with his knee in a brace.

“I talked to the doctor, he has locked his knee in the past and it happened again today,” said the Portuguese.

“Before it had stabilised and he had played and trained, this time it happened and it stayed locked.

“I spoke to him after the game. He says it feels much better, I don’t think it is a big problem but let’s see if there is a big problem or not a problem.

“The next two days will tell us more.”

Without Mawson, the Swans played out a 0-0 draw and will face another FA Cup replay, having already required second chances to get past Wolves and Notts County in rounds three and four.

If they win the match at the Liberty, they will be at home to either Rochdale or Tottenham Hotspur in the quarter-finals. FA CUP QUARTER-FINAL DRAW: Sheffield Wednesday or Swansea v Rochdale or Tottenham; Manchester United v Brighton; Leicester v Chelsea; Wigan or Manchester City v Southampton TIES TO BE PLAYED OVER THE WEEKEND OF MARCH 16-19.
