I CAN BE PERFECT 10, SAYS ANSCOMBE

GARETH Anscombe believes he’s the man to ignite the Wales back-line should he get his big chance at outside-half when Wales face Italy at the Principality Stadium next Sunday.

Wales’ challenge for the European title evaporated following defeats to England and Ireland, and coach Warren Gatland intends to give fringe players chances as he focuses attention on next year’s World Cup in Japan.

Anscombe is battling with Dan Biggar and Rhys Patchell for the primary play-making role and, after impressing following his switch of position from full-back at Twickenham and as a substitute in Dublin, he is in line to face Six Nations strugglers Italy in Cardiff.

“I’d love to get a chance in the 10 jersey, but I’m equally as happy playing at full-back or wherever I’m needed,” said Anscombe.

“I’d like to think I can do a good job for the team.

“That’s all I can ask for. Everyone has got their own roles and we talk about doing that for the team.

“Maybe at times as a team our attitude has to be more positive from the get-go. We have to come out of the gates firing. We’ve talked about that as a group. “We need to back our skill-set from the start. I’ve certainly noticed a massive improvement in the skills level since I’ve been involved in the squad and it’s positive to be a part of a team that’s capable of doing some special things.

“Once we get our decision-making a little more accurate I certainly think we will be a difficult side to contain,” predicted the 26-year-old.
