PONTYPOOL are celebratin­g after successful­ly defending their National Championsh­ip title. Pooler knew a victory would be enough to claim the league title for a second consecutiv­e season but they hammered Cardiff Met 54-10 to seal the title in style.

Jordan Thomas bagged a brace while Clayton Gullis, Owen Williams, Aaron Coundley, Lewis Ball, Martin Luckwell and Josh Mahoney all went over.

Matthew Jones sealed the emphatic victory with seven conversion­s.

Met did manage to get on the scoreboard with Charles Geary and Rhys Gealy both going over.

The victory was Pooler’s 20th league victory in a row, going back to last season, and extends their 100 per cent league record this season to 17 games.

With the title now wrapped up it looks like a battle between Tata Steel and Narberth for second place.

Tata currently hold the runners-up spot after beating Skewen 37-26.

Stef Stone, Dai Griggs, Callum Bricknell and a penalty try saw Tata pick up a bonus-point victory.

Bricknell went on to add five penalties.

Skewen, who are in the relegation zone, caused Tata plenty of problems with Ed Price adding to a penalty try and Anthony Buselli kicking 14 points, but they left empty-handed.

Narberth remain five points behind with two games in hand following their 40-15 victory over basement boys Glynneath.

Steffan Phillips and Liam Hutchings were both at the double for Nar- berth with Dewi Williams and Keiron Jones also claiming the tries.

Nick Gale wrapped up the win with five conversion­s.

Craig Tennant and Gareth Hall hit back for Glynneath, with Aled Evans kicking a conversion.

Trebanos have an outside chance of finishing second but are six points behind Narberth after losing 34-12 to Newbridge.

Matthew Edwards bagged all of Trebanos’ points but a hat-trick from Rory Budina inspired Newbridge to victory.

Lewis Hudd and Paul King were also on the scoresheet with Eamonn Rees booting the rest.

Meanwhile, Rhydyfelin boosted their survival hopes with a 20-16 triumph over Beddau.

Kelvin Williams, Scott Pritchard and Jordan Rees all went over to pull Rhydyfelin away from the drop zone. Dai Gratton kicked the remaining points.

Hywel Chatham replied with a try and two penalties for Beddau while Luke Davies also went over.

Elsewhere, Newcastle Emlyn beat Bedlinog 29-9.

Braces from Llyr Jones and Ashley Sutton led Emlyn to victory while Dan Davies hit three conversion­s and Mitchell Jones struck a penalty.

Dan Parry booted three penalties for Bedlinog.

Meanwhile in One North, Nant Conwy took a big step towards the league title as they beat nearest challenger­s Pwllheli 36-5 in a top-of-thetable clash.

Arthur Lennon, Gwynfor Morris, Morgan Dafydd, Steffan Horan, Ifan Hughes and a penalty try helped leaders Nant Conwy to a convincing win with Lennon kicking the rest.

Reigning champions Pwllheli could only muster an Osian ParryJones try as they fell 11 points behind Nant Conwy.

Brynmawr also showed their title credential­s with a dominant 80-10 triumph over Croesyceil­iog in One East.

Craig Duncan bagged a hat-trick and was followed over the whitewash by Ricky Jones, Jack Stewart, Daniel Wall, Tom Hashmead, Nathan Preece, Damien Hudd, Garin Knapp and Josh Congreve.

Brynmawr were also awarded a penalty try while Daniel Butler kicked the rest of the points.

And in One West, Dunvant’s hopes of a return to the National Championsh­ip were dented as they lost 31-28 to Llangennec­h.

Rhys Tucker, Adam Parry Williams, Sam Evans and Jamie Nicholas all went over for Dunvant with Evans adding all four conversion­s but a double from Rhys Davies guided Llangennec­h to victory.

Tom Barnes, Rhys Phillips and Gethin Long also touched down with Josh Hammett booting six points to leave Dunvant six points adrift of leaders Felinfoel.

Gowerton moved up to second after beating Tycroes 30-3.

Elsewhere, Maesteg Quins beat Waunarlwyd­d 31-8 to go top of One West Central.
