Wales On Sunday

How 7 they rated

-

LUKASZ FABIANSKI

Had his palms stung by Chris Brunt in the 12th minute but commanded his box well early on. Called into action again on the stroke of half-time, and the Polish goalkeeper pulled off a magnificent one-handed save to block Jay Rodriguez’s shot. Helpless for West Brom’s opener.

MIKE VAN DER HOORN 5

Blocked Phillips’ shot from the edge of the area but damaged his shoulder just before the break and was unable to continue after the restart. Replaced by Kyle Bartley.

FEDERICO FERNANDEZ 7

Did well to shackle Salomon Rondon and was alert to all danger as the Baggies started on the front foot. Timely block to deny James McClean shortly after the restart but was caught out at the back post for the home side’s opener. Threw himself in-front of a few shots late on to help earn his side a point.

ALFIE MAWSON 7

Caught out by Rondon in Swansea’s penalty area early on but generally showed just the type of composure his side need in their quest for Premier League survival. Sliding tackle prevented Matt Phillips testing Fabianski early on in the second half and he was largely untroubled in the final half an hour.

KYLE NAUGHTON 7

Always offered himself in attack on Swansea’s right and - on the whole - kept Republic of Ireland international James McClean quiet. Impressive shift from the right-back.

ANDY KING 5

A typically industrious display from the Wales international early on as the hosts saw plenty of the ball. But his influence waned, particularly in the second period as Rondon and Rodriguez started to have a greater influence on proceedings. Substituted on the hour mark.

TOM CARROLL 6

Covered well inside his own area when Mawson was beaten my Salomon Rondon midway through the first half and showed plenty of energy to force the hosts back when they did have possession. Another solid shift from the midfielder.

SAM CLUCAS 6

Gave plenty of support to Tammy Abraham and Andre Ayew, linking up nicely with the former before threading a through ball to the latter to create his side’s best opening in the first 45. Slick operator further up the pitch as Swansea impressed in the latter stages.

TAMMY ABRAHAM 7

Was involved every time the Swans threatened in attack and gave a focal point when the visitors looked to relieve the pressure but was let down by his first touch on more than one occasion in the first half. ANDRE AYEW 6 Put in a strong shift as always but found himself dropping deeper as the Swans struggled to cause Ben Foster any problems in the first half. Spurned a golden opportunity after firing inches wide five minutes before the break.
