Chase lands ‘handsome’ modelling contract
A DOG from Wales ranked as one of the ugliest in the world has landed a modelling contract.
Chase, a 15-year-old Chinese crested dog, has a cataract in one eye, is toothless, has a crab-like walk and is balding (apart from a few grey spikes).
Named the third-ugliest dog in the world, thanks to his unique looks, the posing pooch has now been headhunted by a model agency.
Top agency Models Direct, which boasts clients including M&S, Disney, MAC make-up and Pets at Home, hopes to make Chase into a star.
During his first photo-shoot, Chase donned a leather jacket, feather boa and even a coloured Hawaiian lei.
Owner Storm Shayler, a hospital worker, 49, says “beauty is in the eye of the beholder”. She said: “The agency emailed me asking for more photos and then offered Chase a three-year contract.
“His earnings will vary, but I will just be happy for anything he gets. He will always be a star to me. Anything he earns will be ploughed back into the dogs. He’s up for anything.”
Dog-lover Storm, of Cimla, Neath, is so devoted to her pet she even takes him as a plus-one to weddings.
She said: “I take him everywhere with me, in his own little harness, and nothing fazes him. I couldn’t ask for a better dog and having him with me gives me that extra bit of confidence.”
Chase is used to turning heads, having ranked third in the World’s Ugliest Dog competition last year in Petaluma, California.
Hospital worker Storm said: “I couldn’t believe it when they called out the winners and I heard his name.”
The rescue dog has helped Storm overcome post-traumatic stress after losing her mum in a tragic motorbike accident.
