-

CARDIFF Metropolitan University secured their WRU National Championship status after picking up two points from a 26-26 draw at Bedlinog – while Skewen have now been relegated.

That result, coupled with Skewen’s inability to raise a side to fulfil their scheduled fixture at Narberth, means Met are now six points clear of them and therefore safe.

Met were in a strong position at half time at Bedlinog as they led 15-0 and seemingly on their way to an eighth victory of the season – but the hosts responded.

Bedlinog scored four second-half tries; Owain Rees was at the double with Aaron Harris and Tom Evans also dotted down to also earn them a bonus point with Liam Jones adding three conversions.

Jack Fielding scored twice for Met with Luke Northmore their other scorer while Harry Johnston booted 11 points.

Josh Morris and Huw replied for the hosts.

In Division One, Maesteg Quins sealed the One West Central title in style with a 47-28 victory over Bridgend Athletic.

Aled Edwards, Keiron Watkins, Lewis Francis, Nathan Smith and Geraint Evans all went over for the Quins, who saw Owen Howe kick Wilkes four penalties and five conversions.

Athletic tried to spoil the party with tries from Ben Howe, Ben Cording, Aled Thomas and Luke Bevan, who also kicked four conversions.

Quins will now try to end the season with a perfect league record, having won all 19 games so far, to take momentum into the promotion play-off where they will face One West winners Felinfoel.
