MISKIN Manor’s good start to the Thomas Carroll South East Wales Cricket League Division One campaign continued with a one-wicket victory over newly promoted Abergavenny.

Division Two champions Abergavenny were put into bat after Miskin won the toss and they managed a score of 172 before being bowled out with one over remaining.

Gareth Burkitt led the charge with a half-century (51) while William Glenn (28), Morgan Bevans (24) and captain Geraint Leach (24) also added to the tally. Carl Whiteley showed his bowling talent as he bagged 4-20 while Matthew Jones and Huw Beaverstock each took two wickets.

In reply, Miskin managed 175-9 to claim the win, largely thanks to the contributions of Beaverstock (46) and Daniel Hay (40).

Whiteley also chipped in with 33 but Miskin were made to sweat in the end after ninth batsman Ashley James was caught out by Burkitt on 166-9. But they held their nerve to get over the line.

In other action, Chepstow bagged a comfortable 125-run win over Pentyrch. Jason Dobble (49) and Carwyn James (42) guided Chepstow to 2438, after they won the toss and opted to bat.

Dobble then proved he is just as handy with the ball as he bagged 4-34 as Pentyrch were bowled out on 118.

Croesyceiliog are finally up and running after a 66-run triumph over Brecon. Croesy put themselves into bat after winning the toss and went on to score 178.

Despite sitting at the bottom, Brecon would’ve been confident of catching Croesy but they could only manage 112.
