Schoolgirl sexually assaulted in daylight attack

A 12-YEAR-OLD girl was sexually assaulted in a park and police are appealing for any potential witnesses to come forward.

South Wales Police said that the girl was approached by an unknown man in a Gorseinon park, on the outskirts of Swansea.

She was walking through the park, which is at the junction of Chapel Street and Gwalia Terrace, at around 7pm on Thursday.

A spokeswoma­n for the force said: “The victim was grabbed and assaulted, before the man walked away following a struggle. She then ran to High Street to raise the alarm.

“The suspect is described as tanned, between 17 and 22 years old, around 5ft 8in and of muscular build. He was wearing a black tracksuit with the hood up and sunglasses.”

Detective Inspector Ricky Price, who is investigat­ing the incident, said: “Thankfully, incidents such as these are rare but this was nonetheles­s a frightenin­g experience for the young victim and one which I appreciate will be alarming to the public.

“Patrols have been stepped up in the area and I’d appeal for anyone who has any informatio­n, however insignific­ant it may seem, to come forward so that we can identify and locate the suspect as quickly as possible.”
